In Year 3, as part of our 'Bright Sparks' topic, we have been learning about magnets. We started by playing with a range of different magnets and using our noticing skills to see how they behaved. Some of them attracted and some repelled so we did an investigation to find out why. We learned about the different poles and that opposites attract and like-poles repel. We then used the magnets to test whether everyday objects were magnetic, such as paper clips, cotton-wool, paper etc.
Our findings showed that metal objects were mostly magnetic. We took this learning further, to focus specifically on metals. We investigated whether all metals were magnetic and discovered that copper, aluminium and gold were not!
