Our green team launched waste week to help promote waste reduction at Parson Street; we wanted to reduce the amount of waste at our school (particularly by turning off lights and by reusing the materials we recycle). We launched the project with two assemblies in which we watched some films showing us what happens to the stuff we throw away and how landfills are not at all environmentally friendly. After that, each classes researched the issues further before writing some individual pledges about what we could do differently on a daily basis to reduce waste.
Each class in the school then chose to spend the afternoon on a creative project linked to waste. We made characters out of plastic bottles, some classes made pen pots from lolly sticks and yoghurt pots as well as robots using junk. Rubbish has never been such fun!
Also, pupils from our European partner schools visited Parson Street School during 'Waste month', a whole school Environmental Project. The Year 5 pupils and our visitors from Spain and the Czech Republic worked together on environmental activities.
We used grid references to complete a puzzle with an environmental message. |

We used an internet site to find out about the water cycle and how to save water.
