A VISIT TO A TREATMENT PLANT

Some months ago we visited a water treatment plant. This water treatment plant is located in a small village very close to Guadalajara; the name of this village is Mohernando. We learnt many different things about water and all the processes it undergoes to become drinking water. Most of the water we use in Guadalajara comes from the River Sorbe. Although this water is very good, it must be cleaned before we drink it, and this is what they do at the water treatment plant. They explained us about the three different processes water suffers in order to become drinking water, these processes are: disinfection, decantation and filtering.

During disinfection process water is disinfected, this is done with ozone and chlorine. Next, during decantation process water is cleaned, in order to clean water they use pax and starch. Finally, clean water is filtered. After these three processes water is totally clean and ready to be drunk. This clean water is then carried through big pipes from the water treatment plant to water tanks. From these water tanks water travels through smaller pipes to many different places such as factories, schools, houses… Besides, this water treatment plant is also in charge of the maintenance of the clean water in our area.

To finish, I have to say this was a very interesting visit in which we learnt a lot about water and about the importance of water treatment plants. We really enjoyed it.
